Kim Gordon at Supersonic Festival 2012

Since announcing the initial line up for Supersonic Festival’s 10th birthday, early bird tickets have sold out (and in record time) and the event is really starting to take shape.

Supersonic now proudly announce an extremely special collaboration of the unique and unpredictable guitar pairing of the iconic Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Boston’s favourite free-noise guitarist Bill Nace. Together, they are known as BODY/HEAD.

So far they have only played a one off UK show, released a limited cassette on Ecstatic Peace and included a cover of ‘Fever’ for an Ultra Eczema compilation. Given the credentials of both musicians, Supersonic are confident that BODY/HEAD will deliver a mind-melting performance.

Tickets are available via https://www.theticketsellers.co.uk/

There are other ways you can support the festival. We have set up a We Fund campaign to help us to deliver the festival this year, allowing us to continue this ambitious event. We’d truly appreciate your support.

There will be another announcement to follow in a few short weeks with more acts joining this celebratory event.

We Fund – how you can support Supersonic Festival

Supersonic Festival celebrates its 10th year in 2012, and we are looking for your support to make it the best yet.

Capsule truly appreciate the support we receive from Supersonic Festival’s loyal audience. We wanted to acknowledge this by keeping Early Bird tickets at the same price, despite costs rising each year. Early Bird tickets remained at £70 for a weekend bursting at the seams with exciting music, performance, film, talks and more.

Due to recent cuts in public arts funding, we are increasingly looking for new ways to continue what we do. We have created a ‘We Fund’ campaign to allow people, if they are in the position to, to support us further by making a donation to the festival this year. Your donations will help us to continue to put together a highly ambitious festival programme, allowing us to take risks on emergent artists and unique collaborations. We are hoping our loyal audience can help us further our ambition for this unique event.

£20 or more pledge – Thank you for your support! You will receive a festival brochure, badge and personalised thank you letter.

£50 or more pledge – Thank you for your support! You will receive a festival brochure, badge and personalised thank you letter. As a further acknowledgement of your generous pledge we will invite you to a Supersonic Tea Party.

£150 or more pledge – Thank you for your support! You will receive a festival brochure, badge and personalised thank you letter. As a further acknowledgement of your generous pledge we will invite you to the Sonic Feast, join us and a number of performers for a special sound led dining experience.

£500 or more pledge – Just cos you can. Thank you for your support! You will receive a personal thanks in the festival brochure of which you will receive a copy, plus a badge and personalised thank you letter. You will also receive a token of Capsule’s sincere appreciation. Your generous pledge will help us to realise the festival this year.

Supersonic Festival – initial line up & early bird tickets

For one weekend each year Digbeth’s arches vibrate with strange, wonderful sounds as the Custard Factory becomes the focal point for one of the UK’s most distinctive and respected music festivals…Supersonic Festival.

2012 marks the ten year anniversary of this dynamic, constantly challenging, experimental, multi-disciplinary arts festival, which identifies the otherwise indescribable connections between experimental music, art, performance and film. To commemorate this impressive and very special milestone this year, Capsule propose to work with Supersonic alumni and emerging artists to celebrate the achievements of the festival thus far whilst also focusing firmly on the contemporary. Because as well as giving a warm welcome to many influential, era-defining artists over the years, Supersonic always has an uncanny knack for highlighting new acts before everyone else is talking about them.

Taking place 19-21 October 2012 at Custard Factory, Birmingham. we are very pleased to announce a special appearance from Germany’s Bohren & Der Club of Gore. This will be an exclusive show from the doom ridden jazz outfit and we’re incredibly excited!

This year will also see performances from:

Lichens / Dylan Carlson / Zeni Geva / JK Flesh / Carlton Melton / Tim Hecker / Dope Body / Rangda / Flower-Corsano Duo / Six Organs of Admittance / Sir Richard Bishop / Goat and a Small but Hard label showcase featuring DJ Scotch Bonnet plus many many more to be announced

EXHIBITIONS/INSTALLATIONS

——————————
Home of Metal has been a huge focus for Capsule of the past couple of years, and we were thrilled with the reception of our exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, celebrating 40 years of Heavy Metal and its unique birthplace. We’ll be bringing an element of this exhibition to Supersonic this year, to celebrate Birmingham and the Black Country as the birthplace of Heavy Metal. Grindcore CUT N PASTE is an exhibition that will explore the formation of Grindcore, Napalm Death’s early years and the cut n paste aesthetic and DIY approach at the heart of the music.

After the success of the Gods White Noise event last year, VELZUVIAL will extend the concept to see a 24 hour improvised performance. This new performance is commissioned by Supersonic and Eastside Projects and is a collaboration between artists Christian Jendreiko and Andrew Moscardo-Parker (aka Lash Frenzy). It will take place at Eastside Projects from Sat 22nd 9pm til Sun 23rd 9pm. The performance will feature a core team of players as well as a number of special guests.
