Electric Wizard + Blood Ceremony

ELECTRIC WIZARD is the heaviest band in the world. The oblivion and ecstasy of crushing doom and high grade marijuana, a sonic aural trip far, far away from this world, where only cyclopean walls of crackling vintage valve amplifiers set to the full overdrive and primal ritualistic beats can wash away all the filth and drudgery of everyday life. Our music is DoomMetal, the only true definition. We toll the bell of hell, our sound is a crushing behemoth of funeral march psychedelia.
Violent, bleak and ritualistic, we bow to the black altar of the RIFF. We do not rock, we kill!

Born in Dorset, England in 1993, in a quiet country town, initially we were the product of frustration, unemployment and excessive drug abuse. But through hallucinogenic experimentation and occult sciences we realised our true potential. Eventually becoming a multi-tentacled paen to dark and weird subjects. A celebration of outre low brow art like Weird Tales, 70’s horror and B-movies, head shop art, drug comix, italian pornohorror comics, Crepax, Lovecraft, Howard etc. etc…coupled with a morbid fascination in cults, witchcraft, freemasonry, biker culture, nazi mysticism and ancient occult sciences and how these dark arts can be applied to music. We have created a true one way ticket away from this dead planet.

Born out of an obsession with ’70s occult rock, Blood Ceremony’s music resurrects the spirit of groups such as Coven, Affinity, and Black Widow. After a mind-numbing study of hundreds of trashy witchcraft films, the group began to pour their energies into crafting songs, transforming their fascination for horror into a profane musical vision. Blood Ceremony is interested in musical sorcery, the members having made a firm pact dedicating themselves to the twilight world of saturnalia and occult lore.

Blood Ceremony plays a distinctive brand of flute-tinged witch rock. Early on, their sound revealed an infernal marriage of Black Sabbath and the manic piping of Jethro Tull. Eschewing the affectations of modern rock music, Blood Ceremony keeps it simple and heavy; yet their songs are tempered with strong, brooding melodies. This effect is enhanced by their use of the flute; an instrument once prevalent in progressive rock, but which is uncommon in today’s scene. Invoking the mischievous “Pipes of Pan,” Blood Ceremony songs are distinguished by singer Alia O’Brien’s energetic jazz-flute solos – accenting an instrument long-associated with a list of devilish mythic characters. Writing of Blood Ceremony’s situation in heavy music, NOW critic Jason Keller points out: “Once (the flute) enters the forum of heavy metal, there aren’t many other bands you can reference.” Although the tag of Heavy Metal may be a stretch, there is a sense of heaviness and funereal gloom in Blood Ceremony’s music, as well as a lyrical obsession with eldritch themes, that aligns them with much of traditional Doom.

SUPERSONIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS GOBLIN

It is with great honor that Supersonic Festival present Italian legends, GOBLIN first UK shows in over 20 years.

Goblin started in 1974 as the progressive rock group Cherry Five. The name Goblin first appeared on the map in 1975, when the band recorded the soundtrack for Dario Argento’s “Profondo Rosso”. This was the starting point for a decade long, highly creative and widely influential collaboration between the eccentric film maker and Goblin, that made the group become the aural signifier of the Italian horror film movement of the seventies and the eighties. Till the late eighties they released two studio albums and wrote scores for about 20 films of various directors, including Joe D’Amato and Luigi Cozzi. With OST’s for the Argento cult films “Profondo Rosso” (1975), “Suspiria” (1977), “Tenebre” (1982) and “Phenomena” (1985), as well as for the European versions of George A. Romero’s classics “Martin” (1977) and “Dawn of the Dead” (“Zombi”, 1978), Goblin created some of the most thrilling pieces of soundtrack music ever made. While Argento undisputedly masters color and composition, Goblin’s suggestiv and complex symphonic scores mark a demarcation line when it comes to dark atmospheres, suspense and stirring drive. In combination they create the unique, highly stylized, surreal and psychedelic experience that made the movies become cult classics.

Support comes from Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses
Featuring members of British band Guapo this instrumental quintet plays dark, antiquated sounding music encompassing elements of Eastern European folk, avant-rock, neo-classical film composition and elements of progressive bands such as Goblin. Their music is exciting and could easily be the soundtrack to an Alejandro Jodorowsky film.

Supersonic Festival Present: Corrupted + Thorrs Hammer + The Accused

It is with great honor that Supersonic Festival present the first UK shows for the notorious Japanese band CORRUPTED joined by newly reformed cult doom outfit featuring Sunn 0))) duo Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson THORR’S HAMMER + splatter rock band THE ACCUSED.

Corrupted – Osaka Japan
Corrupted is THE absolute reference in terms of monolithic and experimental funeral doom. The band has become legendary: consistently refusing interviews and photo shoots, the band has only been seen in Europe during a discreet tour in 2000 and a couple of appearances last year, this will be their first show in the UK.

Corrupted’s music is bleak, monumental and slow as a pachyderm… Extraordinary brutal riffs-drones played in a very low guitar/bass duo, as well as a drummer who maintains a brontosaurus like striking force on improbable slow tempos serve as a morbid box for a singer with an inimitable tone: guttural and abysmal at will, he declaims apocalyptic texts in Spanish (!!!). The band sometime uses long instrumental, melancholic breaks that admirably contrast with the force of their sound.

Thorr’s Hammer- US/NORWAY/UK
Greg Anderson & Stephen O’Malley presents their maiden voyage into darkeness: the cult recordings by the black doom act Thorr’s Hammer. Thorr’s Hammer is raw nihilistic doom featuring the unbelievable vocals of Norwegian goddess Runhild Gammelsæter. Presented in her native Norwegian tongue, Runhild Gammelsæters’ gutteral dark vocals are contrasted by beautiful singing creating a huanting atmosphere. Funeral dirge is provided by the collaberation of Stephen O’Malley (ex-Burning Witch/SUNN0)))) and Greg Anderson (ex-Engine Kid/SUNN0)))/Goatsnake) Jamie Sykes (ex-Burning WitchWardrums, ex-CODENAME F.A.D.G.E.) and Guy Pinhas (Beaver, The Obsessed, Goatsnake, Melvins, etc) (Subharmonics). This union is raw, low and heavy as fuck, reminiscent of elder gods HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST,SABBATH, AND VENOM. The material contains the original three demo tracks (from 1995) and a recently unearthed live recording (“Mellom Galgene”) all originally created in the stoned winter of 1994-1995….. grim melancholy.

The Accused – US
Formed in 1981 in Oak Harbor, Washington by bassist Chibon ‘Chewy’ Batterman, Dana Collins and guitarist Tom Niemeyer. John Dahlin was the vocalist from 1982-1984. The addition of Blaine Cook (frontman of Seattle hardcore punk group The Fartz) fit nicely into the group’s migration towards a more heavy metal-based sound. In 1984, The band dubbed their style “splatter rock,” in homage to their favorite genre of horror films. Their hybrid musical formula was distinguishable by Blaine’s unusual choking-sound vocals, Niemeyer’s muted, choppy, buzzsaw guitars, dark metallic riffs, and rapid-fire drumming. The band are also responsible for creating the wild, zombie mascot Martha Splatterhead, whose likeness (created by Niemeyer) adorns most of their albums and many of their promotional items. The Accused recorded five albums, three EPs, and over 100 songs between their 1981 inception and 1990s hiatus.
The current line-up consists of Brad Mowen (also a member of Master Musicians of Bukakke and former member of Burning Witch and Asva), Dorando Hodous (also a member of Lesbian), Mike Peterson and Niemeyer.

Prefuse 73 + Dimlite

Guillermo Scott Herren is a music producer and artist, born in Miami, Florida and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. His father is Catalan and his mother is Irish/Cuban. At an early age his parents encouraged him to play piano and other instruments; his mother “forced” Herren to play a wide variety of instruments, even going so far as to teach him the Suzuki Method, in order to “keep him out of trouble”. Growing up, Herren’s musical tastes branched out, and he became interested in hip-hop, punk rock, and electronic music.

A Hawk And A Hacksaw + Mills & Boon + Chairmaker

A Hawk And AHacksaw- a rooster, a gaggle of geese, bits of tin, two rivers (one in france, one in new mexico), a violinist who began playing at age three, a small cat who has three little kittens, an assortment of gongs, wooden percussive implements, and portable drums. Not only a  occasional jazz musician, but a lover of wood and occasionally gets woodworking tools from https://bestofmachinery.com/best-hybrid-table-saws/. A great tuba player, an oud master, three accordions, a romanian brass band, 4 hungarian cosmopolitans and a stroh violin.

Mills & Boon
Infamous locals channeling the spirit of Beefheart, creating their own ramshackle brand of rambling psych spazz folk.  They always deliver a stunning live performance that bristles with a chaotic excitement and a sense that anything could (and might) happen, these are the wonderful drunks of times gone by, instruments in hand entertaining anyone they encounter.

Æthenor + Einstellung

Æthenor summon the most somnolent examples of Bernard Parmegiani, Organum, Nurse with Wound, Klaus Schulze, Igor Wakhevitch, Coil, Iancu Dumitrescu and Charlemagne Palestine. Acousmatic drones drift into crackling and bubbling sonic clusters. Lulling piano motifs and lamenting chants shimmer into distant lunar horizons while oscillators spin and drove serenely into unchartered audial regions. Sometimes as calm as a silvery sea, so that every gentle cat’s-paw and lapping wave is deafening, sometimes as tempestuous as a fuming lava beach, spitting and popping at the surface. The invocational aspects of Æthenor are of course to be expected when looking at the previous output of its individual members. Except here, the bombast is contained and a much more delicate approach is employed. Æthenor have unlocked a chamber of arcane and auroral sound that is as incandescent as it is magnetic. Like the moons pull.

Featuring:
Stephen O`Malley – Sunn 0))) / Khanate / KTL / Burning Witch /
Kristoffer Rygg – ULVER main man / Arcturus / Borknagar / Head Control System
Daniel O`Sullivan – Guapo / Mothlite / Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses / Chrome Hoof

1 of 3 exclusive UK shows.

In its early years, Einstellung acted as an outlet for its four members from the day to day trawl of 9 to 5 living. A mutual appreciation of all things warm, loud and hypnotic initially lead to a 28-minute piece entitled Sleep Easy Mr Parker. The result was far too pleasing to be ignored and with a new found momentum the band moved from what was an idyllic escape, to a full steam locomotion assault. Members of Godflesh and sludge titans, Sally in a powered up shoegaze band. This is blissed out pop with nods to MBV, Mary Chain, as well as post rock flourishes and the odd bit of Sister era Sonic Youth. Nice intricate time changes with nods to 20th century composer Steve Reich but with a sense of urgency missing from most so called post rock bands.

Feat ex members of Sally, Katastrophy Wife, Cable Regime, Godflesh, Grover

This show also features a surprise performance from Head of David.
