Daniel Higgs – tomorrow!

One of our favourite performers plays an intimate shows at Hare & Hounds tomorrow, and we are VERY excited. Daniel Higgs, the Lungfish vocalist, visual artist and punk rock messiah will perform a solo set – apparently he’s been playing around with some Algerian tunings on the banjo during this tour.

You can get an advance ticket for £8 via www.theticketsellers.co.uk

He’s a legendary tattooist as well and you can check out some of his visual work here www.50watts.com/Bear-the-Signs

Doors are 8pm and support comes from The Horse Loom and Adam Beckley, who are both

definitely worth checking out so get there early.

Adam Beckley joins the bill for next Wednesday’s show with Daniel Higgs and The Horse Loom at Hare & Hounds. He plays ambient drone guitar, creating hypnotic sounds reminiscent Tim Hecker. You can stream Adam’s performance at St Paul’s Church last year, supporting Esmerine, via his bandcamp

Deerhoof / Birmingham / 24th June

It’s been a few years since Deerhoof have graced Birmingham, not since 2005 when they played with The Drones and Alexander Tucker. Well they’re back at the Hare & Hounds on Monday 24th June with their chaotic and noisy pop. The New York Time describes them as “one of the most original rock bands to have come along in the last decade”, high praise indeed.

Tickets are £10 and available  via theticketsellers.co.uk

Daniel Higgs – 1 week to go!

We’re very excited that in only one week the exceptional performer Daniel Higgs will be in Birmingham for an intimate show. We implore you not to miss this!

“It’s difficult to describe Daniel Higgs without tapping into his mythos. The once (and future?) Lungfish singer and lyricist is a punk-rock medicine man, high on tautological contradiction and subject to stories that are difficult to prove or disprove.

He once was known widely as a tattoo artist who didn’t take orders: A Higgs tattoo would be what Higgs chose, or rather, what he divined from whatever higher force he was channeling. Other rumors abound: Some of his own tattoos are said to glow in the dark. In his hometown of Baltimore, his beard has received votes for mayor.” Pittsburgh City Paper

Come meet him on Wednesday 15th May at Hare & Hounds Kings Heath. Doors are 8pm and support comes from Northumbrian guitarist The Horse Loom. Tickets are £8 advance and available from www.theticketsellers.co.uk

Gig review from last Saturday

Gig Junkies have published a glowing review of the show with Barn Owl, Grumbling Fur and Ex Easter Island Head.

“The reassuring predictability of any Capsule event (nothing so vulgar or prosaic as just a ‘gig’ about Capsule) will be its…well, unpredictability. And none more so that with this electronica/existential/experimenta triple line-up. Though it did take some getting used to watching congregated punters with pints shuffling politely in to high, wooden box-stall pews surrounded by the austere beauty of St Paul’s neo-classical columns and pediments.”
