Some kind soul has uploaded the entirety of Boris’ set from their show at Islington Mill, Salford last week. As you can hear, they’re still as heavy as ever. They play at Capsule’s last event of the year tomorrow night, we hope to see you there.
Thursday 13th December at Rainbow Warehouse, doors 8pm. Tickets are available via www.theticketsellers.co.uk
Each year the lovely people at HTF Mediavolunteer their time to document Supersonic Festival for us all to relive our favourite moments. They’ve just completed a great snapshot of the festival, all to the sound of Goat, a musical highlight for many this year.
Enormous thanks goes to Matt and his team at HTF Media as well as students at Birmingham City University who volunteered with the film crew this year. Thanks also to Goat and Rocket Recordings for use of the track ‘Goatman’.
The much loved Hare & Hounds venue in the Kings Heath area of Birmingham is currently under threat as a hub for live music due to plans to build residential property directly behind the venue. You can show your support by signing the petition.
“It has come to our attention that an application for planning permission to build a flat behind the Hare and Hounds has been submitted to Birmingham City Council. If granted it could pose a real threat to us continuing to host live music and club nights due to it’s proximity to the main live venue. Although nothing has been confirmed yet we have decided to appeal against this application before it has the chance to be accepted.
To make our case stronger we need your help. Please sign this petition to show your support.”
Capsule have a long and happy relationship with this venue, with artists like Earth, Mono, Bardo Pond, Melt Banana, Emeralds, Prefuse 73, Merzbow and Efterklang all performing there. Sign the petition and show your support!
Heavy as ever, here’s some footage of Boris performing earlier this year. They headline our last event of the year at the Rainbow Warehouse on Thursday 13th December. Support comes from Joe

Opium Lord make desolate Doom-Sludge with a coal black heart. Filthy grooves meet abrasive noise to convey a menacing atmosphere akin to the dodgiest drinking establishments. Features current-and-former members of Mothertrucker, History of the Hawk and Stinky Wizzleteat. www.facebook.com/opiumlord
They join the bill on Thursday 13th December with Japan’s Boris and Joe Volk. It’ll be our last show of the year and tickets are available via www.theticketsellers.co.uk
Thanks to all who came out to the Town Hall for the Supersilent and John Paul Jones collaboration. The Led Zeppelin member took up a 12 string bass, whilst Supersilent contributed keys, trumpet, percussion and vocals. Support came from Aki Onda who plays a cassette player of found sounds and field recordings.
Our next show, and final one for the year is the heavyweight Boris. They will play Rainbow Warehouse on Thursday 13th December. Tickets are available via www.theticketsellers.co.uk
Aki Onda is an electronic musician, composer, and visual artist. He is particularly known for his Cassette Memories project – works compiled from a “sound diary” of field-recordings collected by Onda over a span of two decades. Onda’s musical instrument of choice is the cassette Walkman. Not only does he capture field recordings with the Walkman, he also physically manipulates multiple Walkmans with electronics in his performances. In another of his projects, Cinemage, Onda shows slide projections of still photo images, shot by himself, as a performance or installation. Onda has collaborated with artists such as Michael Snow, Ken Jacobs, Paul Clipson, Alan Licht, Loren Connors, MV Carbon, Oren Ambarchi, Noël Akchoté, Jean-François Pauvros, Jac Berrocal, Lionel Marchetti, Linda Sharrock, and Blixa Bargeld.
You can see Aki Onda, and his Walkman, perform live next Wednesday 14 November at Town Hall Birmingham. Also on the bill are Supersilent feat. John Paul Jones. Unmissable! Tickets are available via www.thsh.co.uk
