Following the news that the 2010 edition of Birmingham’s acclaimed annual Supersonic Festival will be headlined by Michael Gira’s massively influential NYC band SWANS, Capsule are excited to announce a first round of live acts who will also perform at this year’s festival, including a rocking free jazz fire in the form of JAILBREAK FEAT. CHRIS CORSANO + HEATHER LEIGH, the screeching hyper frantic sounds of Japan’s MELT BANANA, the understated beauty of 12 string guitar virtuoso JAMES BLACKSHAW, plus the mesmeric psych jams of Explosions in the Sky touring sidekicks LICHENS.

Add Eastern-inspired space rock doom from BONG, “tribal drumming, grunge and utter filth all pushed along with a Krautrock like pulse” from GNOD, Rick Tomlinson’s latest incarnation, the bewitching VOICE OF THE SEVEN THUNDERS and psychedelic guitar drone from BLUE SABBATH BLACK FIJI, and many more special live guests plus art, film and panel discussions to be revealed. Home Of Metal – highlights

We launched our new HOME OF METAL website just recently and already have had some amazing contributions to the archive. We’ve been asking people to add their Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Judas Priest, Napalm Death & Godflesh related memorabilia to the archive to help to inform our exhibition in 2011 at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Even if you don’t have memorabilia you can help us by rating your favourite artefacts.

Currently the top three are:

In first place is this fantastic cartoon book of Sabbath uploaded by Doug Roemer from Arlington in the US.

In second place we have an awesome Tony Iommi incorporating the Sunn 0))) logo tattoo uploaded by Stephen O’Malley belonging to his friend from Finland

and in third place we have a great piece of history – a Black Sabbath at the Mayfair in the Bullring Birmingham poster from 1970 declaring that there was ‘ No Restrictions on Dress or Hair whatsoever’ uploaded by Neil Perry of West Brom

We’ve also had some great Godflesh related flyers, posters and live photos uploaded. Feel free to help us spread the word and dig out your related memorabilia – gig tickets, photos, posters, t’s, set lists, badges  and your memories or just rate the items you like best. Have a look at HOMEOFMETAL.COM

Eyehategod review of Brum show

There has always been a healthy fanbase of stoner rock in all its different sub-genres and splintered factions in Birmingham, aided in no small part to the sterling work done by promoters Capsule, who have consistently provided a stage for some of the worlds finest artists in this field. After winding down 2009 with appearances by Electric Wizard, Isis and Sunn o))) amongst others, and with a Baroness show in January, you’d have been forgiven for assuming there’d be more to follow swiftly in their wake. But nothing. Bit of IDM, some Krautrock legends. And then, out of the blue, confirmation that Capsule had nefariously been toying with us. Waiting to drop their bomb.

Eyehategod are playing Birmingham.
….
No doubt about it, this was not a show for the unconverted. EHG’s sound and ethos is extreme, aggressive and unashamed. They write anthems for the sick, for the outcasts and losers of the world; and for what the band lack in the way of financial success or just plain good luck, they take their reward in the love and respect that everyone here threw their way for every minute of the set. And probably a fair bit of drugs as well. This was a show for the fans, and if you own even a single Eyehategod CD you should have been here, it was truly amazing.
